Luke's Birthday Party

My posts have been lacking, I know, but this time I have a good excuse. My laptop has been on the fritz. I had to send it in to get fixed, I got it back and it is still not fixed. So, before I send it back in I figured I'd get caught up on some posts.

Luke's party was so much fun, and he totally got spoiled. Thanks to all of you who came and supported our little guy on his big day!

Here's the cake I made for Luke to dive into on his own. I was just going to give him a piece of cake that we served to everyone else but guilt drove me to make this cake. Let me explain. Growing up my mom made us elaborate birthday cakes on our birthday's. One year she made me this princess barbie cake that stood upright, I will always remember that cake. Anyway, as Luke's birthday approached and I considered just giving him a slice of cake I kept picturing my mom giving me a guilt trip for not putting some effort into it and make him his own cake. My mom died 25 years ago and can still make me feel guilty! So this cake is really for you mom, I know you were there and were proud of me for making my son a cake on his first birthday (and I didn't have to feel guilty)!

Happy Birthday to Luke!

I can't believe that we have a one a year old! This past year has been the best year of my life. Luke has been the most amazing blessing in mine and Barrett's lives. I think we'll keep him:)Here are some the reasons we love Luke so much:
He has the cutest smile (I love that he scrunches his nose up when he smiles)
He can make anyone smile
He is one of the happiest babies I've ever been around
He loves to lay between me and Barrett when he first wakes up and snuggle (that's about the only time he will snuggle)
He smiles when he sees me
He sings as he walks around the house

Here are some of the milestones of Luke's first year:
All the usual baby stuff, smiling, laughing babbling, crawling, etc.
Scoliosis curve improved from a 24 degree curve to a 17 degree (we go in next week for another round of x-rays)
Learned to walk
Learned to catch and throw a ball (oh how he loves balls)
Can say: wow, mom, dad, hello, ruff ruff, and hi
An expert at jumping on the tramp, he gets some serious air
Mastered the art of climbing stairs (he is obsessed with stairs)
Has not mastered the art of going down stairs:)
Gives great loves
We love you Luke!

Playgroup at the Gateway Fountains!

Yesterday for playgroup we went to the fountains at the Gateway. Luke didn't so much love it due to the facts that it was 1. his nap time 2. blasted hot 3. the mean security gaurd lady wouldn't let us stand in the shade 4. he didn't love the surprise factor of the fountains squirting randomly 5. he got a case of heat rash.

I really do think he would have liked it had he not been so tired. Oh well, at least we tried! He did really like it when the music started playing and the fountains got big, he thought that was cool. Here are the pic's from the adventure.

Happy Father's Day Barrett!

With Father's Day fast approaching I wanted to take the opportunity to let all of you who read this blog know what an amazing dad and husband Barrett is. Here are the reasons why Luke and I love Barrett:

Barrett is probably the kindest person I have ever known. Not the "over-the-top, gushy, just putting on a show" kindness, but "genuine, I truly mean what I say" kindness. He has an amazing way of getting along with just about anyone he meets and he doesn't judge people. He will do anything in his power to help and ease the burdens of others. He is just truly kind.

Barrett is a hard worker. He may have to leave early and get home late to get the job done but he is dedicated to what he does. I so appreciate how hard he works so that I'm able to stay at home with Luke and don't have to worry about how the bills are going to get paid.

Barrett is a peacemaker. He just wants everyone to be happy.

Barrett can fix anything! He has saved us so much money by doing projects that he doesn't have the time or energy for, but gets them done anyway. It is rare to come across something that he doesn't already know how to, or can't figure out how to fix.

Barrett is the best dad. Luke adores his daddy and Barrett adores him. Luke's face lights up the second he sees his dad. Barrett is so good with Luke and can make him laugh hysterically!

Barrett is the best husband. He treats me like a queen. He is so patient with me and with all of my quirks. He is my best friend.

Those are just some of the many reasons why we love Barrett so much.
Happy Father's Day, we love you!!

(p.s. I hope this doesn't embarrass you too much Barrett!!)

Luke reading

So Luke really liked this page in the book!

Books

Luke loves his books. He'll sit and look at his books for a good hour or so. It is so funny to watch him and listen to him "reading" the books.

He checks out each page

Turns the pages very carefully

He inpects the pages he really likes up close

Thank goodness for books!!
